Do I Need Zero Turn Lawn Mowers?

The technology that allowed for the development of zero turn lawn mowers was first developed in 1963. However, because of lack of interest, the inventor, John Regier, eventually sold his patent. Since then, there have been plenty of people willing to take a look at this type of lawn mower and add it to their product line. In fact, around 36 different companies offer a zero turn mower to their customers. While you are likely not an engineer, the good news is that you don't have to be to know why these products are so great and why you might want to add one to your lawn care tools.

Most riding lawn mowers are limited in how tight they can turn. Even the most advanced riding mowers leave some grass when they navigate around trees or other landscaping. With zero turn lawn mowers, this extra trimming is virtually eliminated. The mowers actually navigate by spinning around a central axis and can make extremely tight turns and mow very close to obstacles. Most people who use a zero turn mower don't need to clean up the perimeter when they are done. This cuts down on the time spent taking care of your yard quite a bit.

It can be a bit disconcerting the first time you climb onto one of these mowers. They do work a bit differently. Most steer by individually controlling each wheel axis with a series of levers. This can be hard to get used to. Husqvarna makes one of the only zero turn lawn mowers that has a standard steering column. However, it is still a bit different than a normal riding mower. While there is a learning curve involved with zero turn technology, the results are fantastic. Beside a closer cut, they also mow quite a bit faster than the competition. If you run a landscaping business, you know that time is money, so the added cost can be well worth it. Even for a homeowner with a large yard that needs care, this can be a good investment.

The mechanics involved with most zero turn lawn mowers are much different than the standard counterparts. However, you don't really have to understand why it works to know that it's a good fit for you. These mowers are quicker and provide a closer cut and that's something that anybody can appreciate.
